Allegiant Air Pet Policy 2026: Fees, Carrier Size & In-Cabin Rules

Flying with a pet on Allegiant Air is straightforward — but only if you know the rules before you get to the airport. The fees are real, the carrier dimensions are strict, and the number of pet spots per flight is limited.

The Short Version

Allegiant Air allows small cats and dogs in the cabin only. There is no cargo option for pets. You pay $100 per pet, per segment — so a round trip costs $200. The carrier must be soft-sided and fit under the seat in front of you. Pets must stay in the carrier for the entire flight.

Allegiant Air Pet Fees

Allegiant charges a flat $100 per pet, per segment.

A segment is one flight leg. If you fly nonstop from Orlando to Las Vegas, that's one segment — $100 each way, $200 round trip. If your itinerary includes a connection, each leg counts separately.

Trip typeFee
One-way, nonstop$100
Round trip, nonstop$200
One-way, one connection$200
Round trip, one connection each way$400

The fee applies per pet, not per carrier. One carrier with one pet = $100 per segment.

There is no discount for small animals, no waiver for short flights, and no military exemption for the pet fee (though service animals fly free).

Always verify the current fee on allegiantair.com before booking. Airline pet fees change without notice.

Allegiant Pet Carrier Size Requirements

Allegiant requires a soft-sided carrier that fits completely under the seat in front of you. Hard-sided carriers are not allowed in the cabin.

Maximum carrier dimensions

DimensionInchesCentimeters
Height9"23 cm
Width16"41 cm
Length19"48 cm

The carrier must fit without forcing it. If you have to push or shove it under the seat, it's too big — and a gate agent can deny boarding for the pet.

What to look for in a carrier

The carrier needs to be soft-sided and collapsible enough to compress slightly under the seat. It also needs adequate ventilation on at least two sides. Your pet must be able to sit, stand, and turn around inside it.

Allegiant operates mostly Airbus A319 and A320 aircraft. The under-seat space is roughly consistent, but it can vary slightly by row and seat. Window seats tend to have less under-seat space than aisle seats because of the curved fuselage. If your pet's carrier is close to the size limit, book an aisle seat.

Some carriers marketed as "airline approved" are approved for airlines with larger size limits — they may not fit Allegiant. Measure your carrier against the dimensions above before you travel.

Check dimensions on the Allegiant website before departure, as size limits can be updated.

Which Pets Can Fly on Allegiant

Allegiant allows domestic cats and dogs only. No birds, rabbits, reptiles, rodents, or exotic animals.

Rules for the animal:

Allegiant does not restrict specific dog breeds in its published policy, but the practical constraint is size: if your dog fits in the carrier and the carrier fits under the seat, you're eligible.

Allegiant does not transport pets in cargo. If your pet can't travel in the cabin, it can't travel on Allegiant. This is actually one of the better aspects of their policy — your pet is always with you, never in the hold.

How many pets per flight?

Allegiant limits the number of pets per cabin. The exact number isn't published, but it fills up. If you're traveling during peak season or on a busy route, add your pet to the booking as early as possible. Don't assume there's space.

Domestic Routes & International Travel

Allegiant is primarily a domestic US carrier with some service to Mexico and the Caribbean. The pet-in-cabin policy applies to domestic US routes. If you're flying to an international destination, check the specific route, as international rules and entry requirements for animals are separate from the airline's own policy.

For any trip outside the US, you'll also need to look at the destination country's import requirements: health certificates, vaccinations, microchipping, and in some cases quarantine. Our pet passport guide covers those steps in detail.

Service Animals & Emotional Support Animals

Emotional support animals (ESAs) are no longer accepted on Allegiant Air.

In January 2021, the US Department of Transportation issued a final rule allowing airlines to treat ESAs as pets rather than service animals. Allegiant updated its policy accordingly. If you previously flew with an ESA on Allegiant, those rules no longer apply.

Trained service animals (dogs only, per the DOT rule) are still accepted. To bring a service animal, you need to complete Allegiant's Service Animal Air Transportation Form at least 48 hours before your flight.

Service animals fly free. They are not subject to the pet fee.

If you're traveling with a psychiatric service dog, the same process applies — the animal must be trained to perform specific tasks related to a disability, not just provide emotional comfort.
